Christopher Lloyd Owen had been in online retail for a number of years and had sold various products, but he’d always had one idea at the back of his mind. There seemed to be a gap in the market for affordable watches that allowed customers to pick the colour of each component part.
People could create their own; they could be used for teams like football clubs and schools, but they would also be fashionable accessories. They would make great gifts all year round.
It was a great idea, but Chris had a small problem. He knew all about online retail, back-end systems, SEO and the rest . . . but he knew very little about watches so it was a steep leaning curve!
Finding the perfect supplier was slow, in Chris’s words, “watches are nearly as common as people, but watches in component parts are not so easy to find“. To find a supplier who could sell the right quality of product in the right form he had to do a lot of searching. He persevered and sought out companies until he found one that could offer exactly what he wanted.
When contemplating getting his goods to the UK, Chris hit another wall – importing. He’d imported from the Far East before, but the language and culture barrier made the experience difficult and confusing. This time, Chris wanted something simple – so he tried Shippo.
The Importing Process
“I found Shippo online, and from the start they explained everything very simply, and no question was too “stupid boy” for them – I just had an answer within minutes usually by email.”
Chris initially wanted to import his goods via sea freight. However, with Christmas coming up and his first shipment being fairly compact Chris decided that air freight was a good option to allow him to get his product to market as soon as possible. We helped Chris through the importing process and made sure it was as simple and clear as possible.
What did Chris think of our service? Well, let’s ask him!:
When developing the site, Chris concentrated on a bright and modern design and good product photography; however, the real star of the show is the fun and interactive “Design Your Own” page where you can create your own watch. We’ve already spent a fair amount of time changing the colour options to see what our favourite combination is!
So what’s next for Jester Watches?
