Utilizing Container Space

Loading a shipping container correctly will make your shipments cost-effective by using all of the space you are paying for. Allowing your supplier to pack the shipping container can sometimes help as they have the goods in front of them so they can recommend how they’re best packed.

However, we can also help with this by running the numbers and generating a packing report to ensure you are making the most of the container you are paying for. This allows you to see how much space your goods are taking up (as the volume of the container is based on fresh air not physical goods). You could save space and money by asking your supplier to pack your goods in a certain way (to avoid lost space between cartons). This could be especially helpful if your goods are an irregular shape and are not able to be stacked neatly.

By providing us with the carton dimensions and quantity, we can generate a 3D image to show exactly how your goods can be packed. Here are some comparisons of customer’s before and after which demonstrate the space saved by configuring the cartons in a more effective way, compared to how their suppliers packed the goods prior.

    Before:

    After:

You could go from utilizing 24.7cbm to 26.5cbm, that could be the difference that is creating your profit as the shipping cost has stayed the same (you’re just paying for more units which you’ll be selling at the same price).

Smaller cartons with irregular shapes could potentially be wasting nearly 5cbm worth of space which you’re paying the same amount of shipping for whether you fill it or not.

By rethinking your configurations, we can also help you decide what is the most viable option, for example, if you’re currently dealing with 20fts, we can help determine how much you’d be saving by shipping a 40ft container which will assist with confirming the number of units to order from your supplier.

Additionally, we can look at the carton arrangements for full truck loads to ensure you’re getting the most out of your deliveries.
